Job Description:
This is a rare opportunity to join Australian Country Choice in the role of Operations Manager at our large-scale cattle breeding property, Barkly Downs.
Located 150 kilometres from Mt Isa, just on the territory border.
Barkly has a carrying capacity of 52,000 head across 2.3 million acres. It’s an exciting time to join Barkly, having recently completed significant capital investment into staff facilities, property assets and operational infrastructure, with major developments planned for implementation in the near future.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Northern Breeding, the Barkly Downs Operations Manager takes a hands-on, 2IC role, with 5 direct reports and joins a total team of 26, along with contractors and service providers from time to time.
You’ll play an integral role in managing the daily station operations, maintaining a safe place of work, training and supervising staff, maintaining records and reporting with a particular focus on property maintenance and infrastructure.
Job Requirements:
Perhaps you’re currently managing a smaller livestock operation and looking to broaden your experience on a larger property with a corporate company; or you’re a well-established, experienced supervisor/head stockperson seeking that next step in your career. Either way, our ideal candidate will have:
Well-developed livestock handling and husbandry skills
Commitment to high standards of animal welfare
Practical knowledge of general property infrastructure and water systems
Knowledge and interest in grazing and pasture management
Highly effective communication skills
Ability to effectively lead a team and provide training and mentoring
Solid understanding of Work, Health & Safety and commitment to managing a safe place of work
Ability to accurately record and report data using company systems
Sound computer skills
Sound mechanical ability
Experience managing capital expenditure projects an advantage
