Job Description:

We are currently seeking Pen riders/ Livestock Hands for our Opal Feedlot.


Opal Creek feedlot is conveniently located in the Darling Downs region, west of Toowoomba and is one of Australia’s most modern facilities having undergone significant expansion and infrastructure improvements to accommodate 30,000 head of cattle across a range of markets from long fed Wagyu, through to short fed domestic supermarket cattle.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Our Livestock Hands are primarily focussed on monitoring the health and welfare of our cattle on horseback, but also get to enjoy variety and cross skilling in cattle handling and processing activities.

  • Working a 10/4 roster, you’ll join a hardworking and positive livestock team who are committed to the highest standards of safety, animal welfare and quality outcomes.

Job Requirements:

Ideally, you’ll have up to 2 of your own horses with the right temperament, ability and training suited to working within a feedlot, your own tack, as well as being:

  • Competent horse rider and sound horse handling skills

  • Reliable and trustworthy

  • Having total commitment to working safely, taking care of yourself and look out for your mates.

  • A team player with a positive attitude who is always keen to jump in and lend a hand

  • Passionate about cattle and agriculture

  • Someone who is keen to learn from, and work with, the best in the industry

  • Attention to detail

  • Sound written & numeracy skills

  • Valid manual driver's licence
