Bar H Grazing is a Wagyu Stud located in Comet, Central Queensland. This Station Hand role is located on the property ‘River Lea’, 40 minutes from Emerald and 20 minutes from Blackwater in the Central Highlands.

Job Description:

The Station Hand provides support to the Bar H Operations Team across all areas of general property operations, livestock production and animal husbandry on the property ‘River Lea’.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Livestock:

  • Participate in all aspects of the Wagyu breed on a Stud level, with a major focus on attention to detail.

  • Comply with best practice in animal welfare and all animal husbandry; ensure a good clean water supply.

  • Processing livestock in the yards and paddock including identifying, drafting, mustering, branding, mothering, weaning, castrating, weighing etc


Machinery Operation & Maintenance:

  • Comply with company standard operating procedures when using all vehicles, machinery, equipment, and tools.

  • Care for and maintain all motor vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment to a Bar H standard in a clean and respectful manner.


Infrastructure repairs, maintenance and improvements:

  • Assist with all property repairs, maintenance and improvements.

  • Responsible for property maintenance to ensure it is in working order, clean, tidy and well maintained in a respectful manner.

  • Supporting subcontractors to ensure the required work is performed at a high standard and within the timeframe quoted to complete the job.


Land maintenance:

  • Assist and identify land management practices including drought preparation, soil erosion prevention, fire management, nature conservation, pasture spelling and utilisation and regrowth observation.

  • Weed and pest control treatments as and when required.

Job Requirements:

  • Problem-solving ability and attention to detail

  • Cattle and Horse experience - owning horses a big advantage

  • Working dogs a big advantage

  • Class C driver’s licence is essential, HR license an advantage

  • Capacity to work under pressure, be flexible to change and ability to work independently

  • Clean and tidy habits- we take pride in our place and need someone who does the same

  • Work happily in a small team
