Bush Heritage Australia are seeking a Reserve Manager - Pullen Pullen (Central QLD) to join the North team.

Pullen Pullen Reserve was established as a sanctuary to protect what was, at the time, the only known population of endangered Night Parrots. In 2020 we successfully installed important accommodation infrastructure that will give our land managers, ecologists, research partners and volunteers a sheltered base to work from.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Healthy Landscape Manager, the Reserve Manager is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day management of the Reserve meets the goals of Bush Heritage Australia. Management of the Reserve occurs within the context of the implementation of Reserve Property Management Plan.
The primary responsibilities associated with the role include:
1. Ensure Bush Heritage safety culture and Health, Safety & Environment Management System including compliance with legislative requirements are incorporated into all activities.
2. Deepen our existing relationship with the Maiawali Traditional Custodians to cement our existing partnership and establish key cultural programs on Reserve.
3. Prepare and implement reserve management work plans (informed by the Conservation Management Planning process) and budgets in collaboration with the Healthy Landscape Manager and Conservation Planning team.
4. Manage the Reserve operating budget – including monthly reporting on activities & variances and quarterly budget reforecast to the Healthy Landscape Manager.
5. Undertake Natural Resource Management (NRM) activities including but not limited to fire management, pest animal control (feral cat management specifically), weed control, soil conservation, fence maintenance, stray stock removal, road maintenance (actual and supervisory) and GIS data capture as agreed in the Reserve Management Plan.
6. Working with the Healthy Landscape Manager to develop and manage contracts for the supply of a range of NRM and infrastructure related activities.
7. In collaboration with ecologists, support the facilitation of Bush Heritage’s Ecological Outcomes Monitoring program.
8. Support external research partners as required.
Job Requirements:
Commitment and passion for nature conservation and the objectives and values of Bush Heritage
Tertiary qualification or extensive relevant experience in conservation ecology and/or natural resource management
Demonstrated experience implementing Health, Safety & Environment Management Systems and legislation.
Experience and the ability and desire to live and work in remote, isolated areas with excellent practical and problem-solving skills that enable self-sufficiency living on reserve including knowledge of risk assessment procedures.
Demonstrated experience in land management, with specific experience in Natural Resource Management (NRM) including biodiversity conservation, pest plant and animal control, soil conservation, and fire management and suppression.
Practical experience in the pastoral industry such as building and maintaining fences, operating equipment, mechanical and infrastructure maintenance skills, stray stock management, building, concreting, welding, rural plumbing etc.
Positive attitude and the ability to collaborate with all people in a professional and positive way.
Applied ecological knowledge and skills and the ability to communicate effectively with science partners.
