Job Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, livestock and agricultural minded couple/family to join our team at Barton Downs.
As full-time station hand/s, you will assist us in ensuring the continued operation and growth of our extensive cattle and backgrounding operations along with our farming practices on a long-term basis.
We believe the position being offered will provide the successful applicant/s with ample opportunity to develop and grow within the industry given the role diversity and responsibilities offered by our operation.
Barton Downs is located about 107 kilometres southwest of Moura, Qld which will also provide a couple/family with easy access to social and sporting opportunities.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
To be successful in this position, applicants will need to be capable and willing to be involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the property.
General tasks will include, but will not be limited to
Mustering, the inspection and report of livestock and pasture conditions, animal health, welfare and treatment, drafting, loading and unloading trucks, data collection
Assistance in natural and AI breeding programs
The movement of livestock from paddocks and yards
Fencing, water management and general farm duties.
Job Requirements:
Being a diverse cattle and farming operation, there is an onus on the applicants to be mechanically inclined to ensure the successful operation of various station equipment and basic mechanical repairs.
Therefore, the ideal candidates should possess the following attributes:
Previous station or cattle experience and knowledge;
Strong communication and organisation skills;
Ability to maintain a tidy and clean workplace;
A willingness to learn and adapt to new practices;
Mechanical, fabrication and operation skills;
Digital literacy (i.e. Excel); and
Horse and motorbike riding ability.
It is also important that the successful candidates share our vision with respect to ensuring a safe and harmonious working environment for the entire team.
Job Benefits:
Along with a negotiable remuneration package, the successful candidates will be provided with a new four (4) bedroom, two (2) bathroom home.
The property has access to the school bus (25 kilometres from the house to drop point) and you will have access to various meat and produce grown on the property.
Utilities including water and power will also be provided.
