Job Description:

  • This seasonal role, beginning now til February 2025, with the option to continue working after that time, may suit someone with previous Bore Runner experience, i.e. water management and mechanical experience.

  • Reporting to the Row Crop Manager, this role will work as part of a team to meet the row crop and broadacre irrigation and farming requirements at our property 35mins from Goondiwindi, QLD

  • The role involves predominantly outdoor work, in all weather conditions. It requires manual handling, chemical and fertiliser logistics, and shift work. 

  • Machinery operation and Irrigation are a significant part of the role.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Irrigation

  • Operate lateral move irrigators to apply crop irrigation in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Monitor lateral irrigators to allow for early diagnosis and repair of problems identified.

  • Observe and communicate to your supervisor general crop health and irrigation effectiveness.

  • Take responsibility for general repairs and maintenance of lateral irrigation equipment.

  • Operate and maintain water bore and river pumps to ensure efficient delivery of water to lateral move irrigators

  • Maintain records of maintenance and water usage.


Machinery Operation

  • Farming activities including tillage, summer crop planting, winter crop sowing and fertiliser application.

  • Ensure daily maintenance and pre-start checks are completed and submitted.

  • Operate machinery, tractors, and implements to ensure a safe and timely farming operation.

  • Work to ensure machinery is kept clean, tidy, and in a safe working condition.

  • Work with supervisor and farm mechanic to ensure timely servicing and repairs of farm equipment.


Maintenance

  • Complete weed control, general earthworks, and farm maintenance to present a professional farming asset.

  • Record and report repairs and maintenance.

  • Conduct repairs and maintenance to machinery and basic servicing in accordance with safe work procedures.


Safety

  • Manulife has excellent policies about how we want to treat each other at work and protect the asset we are farming.

  • Work safely following company policies and safe work instructions. Report hazards, near misses and incidents using our company Velocity EHS safety App.

  • Operate vehicles within farm speed limits. Drive to the conditions on farm.

  • Demonstrate an ability to work safely in all aspects of the workplace.

  • Look out for your own safety, look out for your work mate’s safety.

  • Report any issues that could prevent you from safely completing a task. Stop work if it is unsafe to continue.

  • Use PPE when required to safely perform farming tasks.


Other Duties

  • Work in almond orchard as required.

  • Mandatory company training.

  • Undertake all other duties as required or directed by your supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to learn the operation and management of lateral move irrigators.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • A firm commitment to working safely in team environment

  • Adaptability and flexibility to farming programs

  • Ability to operate machinery and electronically managed irrigation systems

  • Self-starter showing initiative and problem solving

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Open Vehicle licence

  • AQF3 chemical accreditation

  • HR Licence (not essential)

  • All High-Risk licences and Gold Card competencies will be viewed favourably.
