Job Description:

  • We are currently seeking a Senior Livestock Hand (Pen Rider) at our Pinegrove Feedlot.

  • Located in Millmerran, Pinegrove employs 16 team members to oversee operations. Currently licensed for 21,100 SCU, the feedlot has a built capacity of 9,700. On average, the site inducts and exits 500 head (hd) of cattle a week.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

As a Senior Livestock Hand (Pen Rider) working in a small team, you will be exposed to a wide variety of work, whilst focussing on the following key responsibilities:

  • Leading day to day activities such as pen riding, livestock movements, drafting, induction, processing and hospital treatments

  • Undertaking reporting and maintaining accurate record keeping using specialist feedlot systems

  • Ensure that cattle health, wellbeing, and performance are thoroughly monitored each day in an efficient manner and in accordance with company protocols and procedures

  • Ensure all livestock operations are performed safely and in accordance with company workplace health and safety requirements, policy, procedure, compliance, and regulatory requirements

  • General maintenance of all feedlot sites and facilities

Job Requirements:

To be successful in this role you will have a strong background in cattle handling and horsemanship experience. You will also bring

  • will need to supply at least two horses (up to seven) to be considered for the position

  • Demonstrated ability in the application of and to teach others in cattle handling principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle and/or provide advice on difficult cattle.

  • Knowledge and understanding of treatment programs and ability to administer the treatments.

  • Demonstrated communication, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to build effective relationships with the team and with key stakeholders.


PLEASE NOTE: To be considered for this role you will need to be able to provide at least two horses (up to seven). Mort & Co supports employees with the care of horses including the payment of a horse allowance, the provision of feed for horses in work, farrier services, support with vaccinations and individual paddock's and stables.
