Job Description:

  • Are you passionate about the northern beef industry, research and development in livestock and land management, and the rich landscape of the Northern Territory? 

  • If so, an exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the Victoria River Research Station team as the Assistant Farm Manager.

  • Located in the beautiful Big Rivers Region, the Station is a research and demonstration facility focusing on beef cattle research, and best practice rangeland management.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

As the Assistant Farm Manager, you will assist in Station operations, maintenance of Station facilities and equipment, cattle management, and support to research trials. Employment comes with a 3-

bedroom house on-site.

  1. Assist the Farm Manager to coordinate and manage station operations, and to supervise and direct station staff.

  2. Undertake day-to-day work of the Research Station, including livestock and rangeland management and operating and maintaining machinery and equipment.

  3.  Assist the Farm Manager in the safe and efficient operation of the Victoria River Research Station, including the development and implementation of WHS initiatives which positively encourage the workplace safety culture.

  4. Assist in the implementation of long-term development plans of the Research Station.

  5. Assist the Farm Manager to facilitate research and extension programs and be involved in extension activities such as field days and demonstrations. 

  6. Undertake accurate data collecting and recording activities and maintain station records.

Job Requirements:

Essential 

  1. An appropriate Associate Diploma or Certificate in Livestock management, Agriculture or related field, and / or considerable relevant experience.

  2. Experience with computers and familiarity with relevant software packages.

  3. Demonstrated experience with cattle handling, mustering, and animal husbandry practices.

  4. Demonstrated management and supervisory skills, and ability to work with limited supervision.

  5. Ability to interact positively with the public, contractors and government staff working on the farm.

  6. Demonstrated Workplace Health and Safety leadership and proven ability to assist with managing workplace risks and promoting a safety culture.

  7. Ability to drive a 4WD vehicle.


Desirable 

1. Hold a current HR NT drivers licence. 

2. Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification. 

3. Chemcert or SmartTrain chemical application certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification
