The station is made up of the mighty De Grey River and her grass-covered floodplains with rolling hills of spinifex and acacia. Job Description:
Do you love horses and are skilled at starting, schooling, shoeing and refining young horses? Outback Beef has a Horse Starter & Handler role open for 2025.
This is a perfect opportunity for you to step up & have the independence to grow your horsemanship training/starting skills.
Ideal for someone out there with several station seasons under their belt and now want to sharpen and refine their role with horses, quality stockmanship and contribute to a healthy team culture.
Importantly we need you to have done quality horse starting before on your own or with minimal supervision and want to take it to the next level.
You will have full responsibly for a family horse plant and the care needed to maintain that.
This is a 3-year development program that will help solidify your path in the equine and cattle industry.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A STATION HAND ROLE - WE ARE LOOKING FOR A SPECIALIST HORSEPERSON.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
The main purpose of this role is to have a capable person that we can rely on to develop our young horses for the future horse plant, to supervise and shoe the horse plant, the care for the whole horse plant and its equipment/gear.
Due to all the different scenarios, the time you work will need to be flexible, an estimate would be 80% horses, 20% general station hand.
Job Requirements:
We are looking for someone that not only wants to ride horses, but loves them, there is a difference. Its purpose is for the horse, where a horse fires up your ambition and drive, that you want to be around them and enjoy their energy.
It is ESSENTIAL you have experience in horse starting before on your own or at least supervised, is passionate about starting, schooling, shoeing and refining young horses.

This is a 3-year development program that will help build your path in the horse starting industry, we can scope out the plan together in a “job purpose document” which helps to guide us to reach your goals, aims, ambitions with this career. This document is reviewed often to keep both parties accountable to that plan.
On property training is carried out with an annual horsemanship clinic run by a noted horseman in the industry, this can also include a follow up in the middle of the year and at the end of the season.
