Job Description:
The Leading Hand (Emerald) is responsible for assisting in completing current contracts that exist, maintaining relationships within the industry, and supporting the State Manager.
This involves having a solid understanding of livestock and Saleyard procedures, WHS policies and procedures, understanding software features and functionality, having a strong ability to problem solve, and skills in communicating effectively within the team.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
The Leading Hand will assist the State Manager and will be responsible for:
Staff Liaison - oversee staff suitability and staff wellbeing at Emerald Saleyard. This will involve planning for staffing levels, rosters, managing the recruitment, selection and induction process (including safety inductions and site walks) and working with staff to foster a productive and nurturing work environment.
Being the contact point for any ideas, concerns or complaints
WHS compliance including overseeing the safety requirements for staff
Facilitate “Toolbox” meetings prior to each sale
Managing the upkeep of equipment
Organising the weekly pen draw on behalf of agents
Allocating staff to shifts on non-sale days for loading and unloading cattle
Liaising with council and agents
Working with the team on sale day
Working independently on non-sale days
Job Requirements:
Prior exposure to livestock or the agricultural industry is highly desirable
Understanding of WHS requirements
Good communication and relationship-building skills
Knowledge of saleyards and their related processes
Willingness to learn processes and understand procedures
Organised and proficient in time-management
Strong problem solving skills
