We are currently seeking to fill a Head Stockperson vacancy at our Brunette Downs property, Brunette Downs isn’t just another property; it’s at the heart of AACo and a huge part of our history!
In this dynamic and hands-on leadership role, you’ll be at the heart of station operations - leading the stockcamp, developing the crew, and ensuring daily activities run smoothly and safely. You’ll drive training and assessment through our Operational Skills Framework, champion animal welfare, and uphold company policies and performance standards. As a role model for safety, teamwork, and excellence, you’ll help shape a culture where people grow, contribute, and succeed together.
Situated 350km northeast of the nearest town, Tennant Creek, the property comprises of mostly open downs country and is involved in the breeding and backgrounding of our Mitchell Composite and Wagyu F1 cattle. As the Head Stockperson, you will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the property and staff, whilst ensuring all operations enhance business performance and support the long-term interests of AACo.
Lead, mentor and support the Stockcamp, fostering strong communication across teams.
Train, develop and assess the Stockcamp in line with the Operations Skills Framework, ensuring appropriate supervision for each task and individual
Role model safe behaviours, continuously assess and improve safety systems to protect people, livestock, and assets
Ensure livestock welfare in line with Industry Standards and AACo’s Animal Welfare Policy.
Plan and implement animal husbandry programs.
Maintain accurate livestock records using AACo’s systems.
Contribute to planning and execution of general maintenance and capital improvement programs.
Support environmental and natural resource management, maintaining appropriate records.
Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Station Hand/Leading Hand
Intermediate computer skills (including Microsoft Office suite) – Desirable
Experience with Stockmate, Livestock recording systems/programs or similar – Desirable
Extensive experience in cattle herd, pasture and water management & excellent cattle handling and horse-riding skills
Sound working knowledge of all on station activities including bores, fencing, construction, machinery, earth moving, stockman ship
Knowledge of market specifications and ability to draft cattle according to specifications
Knowledge of Livestock Production Assurance Cattle Care Quality Assurance Program
Excellent leadership, communication skills and mature and rational approach to problem solving
Current Drivers License (Heavy vehicle license preferred)
Firearms Licence (Class A and B)
