We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Leading Livestock Hand to join our client’s breeding, backgrounding and feedlot team in a long-term position based outside of Dalby, Queensland. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys leading from the front, and thrives in a hands-on livestock environment.
Spanning several properties dedicated to both livestock and cropping, the operation is structured into two core teams, farming and livestock. The enterprise produces wheat, barley, oats, chickpeas, sorghum, corn and cotton across dryland and irrigated country. On the livestock side, the business runs Santa Gertrudis cattle, backgrounders, and an expanding feedlot.
Lead and mentor a team of younger stock hands
Carry out all cattle work including mustering with horses, yard work, drafting and animal husbandry
Take care of general property maintenance
Communicate clearly and work closely with management and team members
Work across all aspects of the operation including breeders, backgrounders and feedlot cattle
Step into the feedlot when required, though the main focus will be out in the paddock
Excellent cattle and horsemanship skills (must have your own horses)
Proven experience in a similar livestock leadership role
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Fit and capable of physical work in a rural environment
Reliable vehicle and current driver’s licence
Clean and responsible work habits
