Russell Pastoral Operations is seeking a highly motivated Station Hand to join the team at the Russell Pastoral Operations Champion Station, located 60km north-east of Blackall, and 600km west of Rockhampton, QLD.

Champion Station, totalling approximately 55,000 hectares, is highly developed with two thirds pulled Brigalow/Gidyea country sown to Buffel, running into Box and Broadleaf Ironbark Forest with some desert country.
The station runs a breeding herd of over 3,500 Angus cross cows and approximately 1,000 F1 Wagyu cows, forming the basis for an annual turnoff in excess of 4,000 young cattle per year to premium cattle and beef markets.
Work closely with the Station Manager to prioritise workload, resources, and shift priorities to meet operational deadlines.
Accurate record keeping of stock movements and numbers.
Manage cattle in a quiet, controlled, and low-stress manner, including mustering with horses, motorbikes, and helicopters.
Implement nutritional and husbandry programs, including supplementary feeding and cleaning troughs.
Develop and maintain property infrastructure such as fencing, water systems, and general farm structures.
General maintenance of vehicles, machinery, buildings, roads, fencing, and yards.
Operate and perform tasks with farm machinery (tractors, loaders, graders); mechanical and welding skills are advantageous.
Adhere to company protocols including animal health, workplace health and safety, and federal/state regulations including fire prevention and management programs.
Display effective communication, organisation, and leadership skills.
Valid QLD Driver’s License (car, motorbike, and HR categories required).
Ability to work unsupervised, show initiative, and be part of a dynamic team.
High attention to detail, reliability, and pride in work.
Willingness to learn and take direction.
Maximum of 4 private horses (no stallions); Please note, no dogs at all.

Russell Pastoral Operations manages two large aggregations throughout Southern and Central Queensland and another in Northern New South Wales which produce a range of cattle, grain and forage crops.
Russell Pastoral’s core business is cattle production and runs two distinct cattle breeding enterprises being an Angus x cross for ‘flatback’ feedlot markets as well as an expanding F2 Wagyu herd servicing high end Wagyu feedlot markets.
The F2 Wagyu operation is a terminal cross and we breed our own F1 Wagyu replacement breeding females which means we also run our own fullblood Angus herd.
Jimbour
Jimbour, QLD is located approximately 30km north of Dalby and comprises approximately 4,500 hectares of diverse country and which includes prized Jimbour Plain chocolate soils used for cropping as well as basalt soils on the hill country which is used for grazing and the production of fodder.
Jimbour backgrounds approximately 1,500 F1 & F2 Wagyu yearlings per annum as well runs approximately 500 high quality Angus cows for use in the Wagyu program.
Champion

Cluny
Cluny is located approximately 30km east of Bingara, on the North West Slopes region which is noted breeding country. Totalling approximately 3,700 hectares, Cluny runs approximately 800 cows being a mix of F1 Wagyu breeders as well as high quality Angus cows for use in the Wagyu program. The F1 Wagyu female progeny are retained as replacement breeders, with all other progeny being sent to Jimbour to background.
