We are seeking a Mill Manager at Wallumba Feedlot near Condamine, QLD.
This is a full time, long-term position (not suitable for 88-120 days)
Experience in a feedlot setting, preferred
With a license to feed 20,000 head, the Wallumba feedlot grain finishes the majority of MDH's cattle. After being purchased in 2001, Wallumba has changed MDH from a grass-finishing to a backgrounding operation, with 90 per cent of MDH's cattle being grain-finished in the feedlot.
Wallumba, in addition to Nangram, has provided significant 'drought proofing' capabilities to the MDH operation, ensuring cattle can be finished even when the northern properties experience a dry season.
Oversee the effective daily operations of the feed team and all feeding activities.
Supervise mill operations during business hours.
Maintain accurate operating records and analyse operational hours.
Coordinate scheduled mill maintenance and manage greasing requirements.
Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all activities related to feed mill operations.
Enforce compliance with Work Health & Safety (WH&S) standards.
Inspect pens, bunks, and troughs daily to ensure cleanliness and suitability.
Assess feed requirements through regular bunk checks.
Collaborate with management to determine optimal feed rations.
Prepare and mix feed rations in accordance with batching sheets.
Distribute feed to bunks and record actual consumption rates.
Perform machinery maintenance as outlined in maintenance manuals.
Monitor commodity inventory levels and notify management regarding reorder needs.
Manage disposal and composting of deceased animals.
Perform additional farm-related duties as assigned by management.
Demonstrated ability in staff supervision and coordination.
Strong understanding of grain processing and mill management practices preferred.
Prior experience in a feedlot environment preferred.
Keen attention to detail for comprehensive record keeping.
Proactive identification and communication of operational and maintenance needs.
Proficiency with industry-standard data tracking and analysis tools.
Excellent time management and problem-solving abilities.
Effective consultative skills to liaise with other operational departments.
Outstanding communication skills.
Ability to foster teamwork to achieve successful operational outcomes.
Sound knowledge of WH&S regulations.
