Fortescue Helicopters is a Western Australian helicopter operator founded in 2014, following the integration of two existing WA businesses. The company is owned and operated by CEO Weldon Percy, who brings more than 15 years of experience flying both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft across Northern Australia, as well as a lifetime of experience in the cattle industry. Although the name may evoke the prominent mining company Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (FMG), Fortescue Helicopters makes clear that it has no affiliation, association or connection with FMG or any of its subsidiaries — the name is derived instead from the local landmark the Fortescue River.
