Mactaggart Pastoral operates breeding and backgrounding enterprises in the Duaringa and Moura districts.
Our small team is focused on enhancing ecological, people and financial resources to produce nutrient dense, grass-fed beef.
Technology, science and innovation help optimise productivity and environmental outcomes. Maia Grazing is used for recording pasture inventory, Optiweigh for timely weight data, Cibo Labs for pasture and vegetation monitoring, as well as remote water monitoring systems.
The open-ended composite consists of about 40 per cent Bos Indicus and the balance between European and British breeds.
Our herd is bred for functionality in a low input, central Queensland system. Heifers are joined at 15 months and wean the first calf at 2.5years of age, then annually after that. The program focuses on homozygous (PP) polled stock, with moderate growth and milking, low birth weight and proven fertility.
Objective measurements including genomics - particularly for fertility traits - alongside raw data and systems-based selection, helps drive productivity and fit for purpose stock.
