Experienced Stockhand/Pen Rider | QLD

BOS Grazing is looking for an experienced Stockhand / Pen Rider to join our team at Greystonlea, between Kingaroy and Dalby in South East Queensland.

This is a hands-on livestock and property role suited to someone who is a genuinely capable stockperson, confident horseperson and practical all-rounder.

While pen riding and livestock work are central to the role, Greystonlea is a diverse cattle and farming operation and we don't operate with a "that's not my job" mentality. Our team works across cattle, yards, machinery, infrastructure and general property work as required.

We're looking for someone who enjoys the farm and station lifestyle, takes pride in doing things properly, notices when something needs attention and is willing to get in and get it done.

BYO suitable work horse/s is essential.

Single-person accommodation is available on-property. We do not currently have family accommodation available. Applicants wishing to live off-property are welcome to arrange their own accommodation locally and commute.

Greystonlea is BOS Grazing's 7,500-acre cattle and farming operation, located between Kingaroy and Dalby in South East Queensland.

The property incorporates intensive cattle feeding, backgrounding and grazing operations alongside cropping and irrigation, with country ranging from productive black-soil creek flats through to spotted-gum ridges.

This isn't simply a feedlot job.

It's a varied agricultural operation where livestock, horses, machinery, farming, infrastructure and property maintenance all form part of daily life.

We're a relatively small team and value good stockmanship, practical common sense, initiative, animal welfare and people who take pride in the property, livestock and equipment they work with.

We use modern livestock management systems and technology where they make us better at what we do, while retaining the practical, hands-on approach of a working cattle property.

The successful applicant's primary responsibilities will include:

• Daily pen riding and cattle health monitoring
• Identifying, pulling and treatment of sick or injured cattle
• Low-stress cattle handling and good livestock welfare
• Cattle receivals, inductions, drafting, processing and dispatch
• General cattle yard work
• Moving and handling cattle throughout the property
• Maintaining accurate livestock records
• Caring for and managing your own work horses
• Operating farm machinery, vehicles and equipment as required
• Checking and maintaining waters, troughs, fences, yards and livestock infrastructure
• General feedlot and property maintenance
• Cleaning and maintaining yards, work areas, vehicles and equipment
• Identifying maintenance issues and either safely fixing them or ensuring they are reported and addressed
• Assisting with general property work when required
• Working independently as well as alongside the broader team
• Using software and apps like StockAid , Agriwebb, Monday.com and excel.

We expect everyone on the property to take some ownership of the place around them.

If you see something broken, leaking, loose, empty, damaged or needing attention, don't simply walk past it.

You don't need to be a mechanic, welder, plumber and stockman rolled into one. You do need to be practical, observant and willing to help solve problems rather than assuming they're somebody else's responsibility.

We are looking for someone with genuine previous livestock experience who can confidently step into the role.

Applicants should have:

• Strong cattle handling and stockmanship skills
• Previous pen riding and cattle health monitoring experience
• Confident horsemanship and experience working cattle from horseback
• Own suitable, reliable work horse/s
• A sound understanding of cattle behaviour, health and welfare
• Experience with cattle yards, drafting and livestock processing
• Confidence operating farm vehicles, machinery and equipment
• Practical maintenance and problem-solving ability
• A willingness to work across different areas of the operation when required
• Good attention to detail
• The ability to work independently and use initiative
• A positive, team-focused attitude
• Pride in looking after livestock, horses, equipment and infrastructure
• Comfortable using an iPhone/iPad and learning livestock and operational software
• Current open driver's licence
• Permanent Australian working rights

You will suit us particularly well if you're the sort of person who notices what needs doing and gets on with it.

We're probably not the right fit if you prefer very narrow job boundaries or your instinct when asked to help with something different is "that's not my job."
