Feedlot Hand | QLD

This is a full-time, onsite Feedlot Hand position suited to an experienced pen rider and stock hand located between Kingaroy and Dalby, SE QLD.

You’ll play an important role in the daily care, monitoring, and movement of cattle across the feedlot. Your responsibilities will include pen riding, identifying and pulling unwell cattle, livestock handling, feeding support, yard work, record-keeping, and general feedlot maintenance.

This is a varied, hands-on position requiring sound cattle knowledge, strong horsemanship, good judgement, and the ability to notice and respond to changes in livestock health and behaviour.

As technology is an important part of our daily operations, you’ll also need to be comfortable navigating mobile apps and completing basic computer tasks. Previous experience using StockAid will be viewed favourably.

Applicants must have previous pen-riding and stock-hand experience and be able to supply their own suitable, reliable horses.

We’re also a tech-forward business, using apps and digital systems to support livestock management, record-keeping, and our day-to-day operations.

This role is for an experienced livestock professional who is confident working cattle both on horseback and in the yards. We’re looking for someone reliable, practical, and capable of working independently while contributing positively to the wider team.

Pen Riding & Livestock Management

• Conduct daily pen riding to monitor cattle health, condition, and behaviour.

• Identify, pull, and report sick, injured, or at-risk cattle promptly.

• Move and handle cattle calmly and safely using low-stress livestock-handling practices.

• Assist with cattle induction, drafting, processing, receivals, and dispatch.

• Maintain clear and accurate communication with the Livestock Manager regarding livestock health and welfare concerns.

• Care for and manage your own horses to ensure they are fit and suitable for feedlot work.

Technology & Record-Keeping

• Use mobile apps and digital systems to support livestock management and daily operations.

• Accurately enter, access, and communicate livestock health and treatment information.

• Maintain clear and accurate digital records as required.

• Use basic computer systems confidently for day-to-day tasks.

• Follow established processes to ensure information is recorded accurately and on time.

Feedlot Operations

• Assist with daily feeding routines and feed preparation as required.

• Check water systems, troughs, pens, gates, and feeding equipment.

• Assist with cleaning, pen maintenance, and general feedlot upkeep.

• Support the efficient movement of cattle throughout the feedlot and yards.

General Duties & Maintenance

• Maintain yards, fencing, pens, and surrounding areas in a clean and safe condition.

• Operate machinery and equipment safely where required.

• Assist with general repairs and maintenance across the feedlot.

• Complete daily tasks efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

Safety & Animal Welfare

• Maintain a strong focus on animal welfare at all times.

• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and site protocols.

• Use safe and low-stress cattle-handling practices.

• Work collaboratively with the team to support smooth and efficient daily operations.

What you'll bring:

• Proven experience as a pen rider and stock hand.

• Strong horsemanship skills and confidence working cattle on horseback.

• The ability to identify signs of illness, injury, and changes in cattle behaviour.

• Sound livestock-handling skills and a strong understanding of animal welfare.

• Confidence using mobile apps and basic computer systems.

• The ability to accurately enter, access, and communicate livestock information using digital systems.

• Experience using StockAid is highly regarded but not essential.

• A willingness to embrace technology as part of daily feedlot and livestock operations.

• Confidence working independently and making practical decisions when required.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

• A strong work ethic and willingness to assist across all areas of the operation.

• Your own suitable, reliable horses for pen-riding duties.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated pen-riding and stock-hand experience.

• Own suitable, reliable horses for feedlot work.

• Strong cattle-handling and horsemanship skills.

• Basic computer skills and confidence navigating mobile apps.

• Current Open Driver’s Licence.

• Physical capability to perform a hands-on livestock role.

• Availability to work full-time onsite, including early starts and rostered weekends where required.

• Ability to work safely and follow all site procedures.

• A hands-on role within a progressive livestock operation.
