The Machinery Operator/Handyman role encompasses a range of duties to help the property run smoothly. This includes maintaining key infrastructure, such as roads, fences, and pipelines, using the station 12G CAT grader.
The role also involves working under the direction of and communicating directly with the Station Manager.
When time permits, the Station Machinery Operator/Handyman assists with general vehicle and machinery maintenance, water runs and general duties around the homestead.
Devoncourt is an integral part of the McDonald family business and home to family members Don, Christine, Julie and her four daughters. Located 80 km south of Cloncurry and neighbouring both Brightlands and Chatsworth, Devoncourt is also home to the MDH head office.
Devoncourt offers a good mixture of black soil, Mitchell grass plains, Buffel river flats, and stony spinifex ridges with a carrying capacity of 12,000 cattle. Pastures are used for both breeding and fattening, although the majority is reserved for backgrounding for the Wallumba Feedlot.
Operating 12G CAT grader to maintain station roads, fencelines and pipelines
Daily pre-start and post-operation checks on the machine
Assisting with water runs and maintenance, checking of bores, tanks, troughs & water points and fences
Reporting any issues to Station Management
Assisting with general maintenance of station vehicles
Assisting with general station duties, which include handyman tasks and lawn mowing using the ride-on lawn mower.
Experience operating road graders similar to 12G
Understanding and commitment to maintenance on the grader
Bore Running experience is advantageous
Experience working with pumps and motors is advantageous
HR truck license advantageous
Welding experience desirable
Mechanically minded desirable
Happy to potter around the lawns when needed
Initiative and strong work ethic
Self-motivated and trustworthy
Mature, happy, and willing to be a part of the broader station team
A maximum of two dogs allowed, must be well-trained and happy to stay around the accommodation.
