An opportunity exists within our Livestock team as a Pen Rider reporting to the Assistant Livestock Manager.

As a Pen Rider you are responsible for the daily maintenance and care of all livestock ensuring their optimal health and hygiene.

Killara Feedlot is a licensed 22,250head feedlot and is a leading supplier of high-quality grain fed cattle to both domestic and international markets. Offering a variety of feeding programs ranging from 70 – 150days, our products are supplied around the world to premium food markets

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

As a Pen Rider you will have a varied day including:

  • Daily observation and health management (including treatment) of Livestock 

  • Pen Riding and Horse Husbandry

  • Stable Maintenance

  • Cleaning and maintenance of stock water supplies

  • Manual handling of livestock in the feedlot

  • Timely and effective receival of cattle (induction) including vaccinating, ear tagging, drenching in accordance with relevant protocols and instructions

  • Exiting cattle, completion of appropriate documentation, record keeping, weighing, scanning and drafting

Job Requirements

To succeed at Killara, you will have:

  • A strong commitment to animal health

  • Excellent horsemanship and riding capabilities

  • 2 x Horses and tack

  • Commitment to safety & zero harm policy

  • Proven problem-solving ability and attention to detail

  • An understanding of animal nutrition and previous feedlot experience would be highly regarded

  • Reliable and highly motivated
