Position involves day to management of an intensive self replacing prime lamb flock consisting of 11,000 breeding ewes and some opportunistic lamb feedlotting and cattle trading
Working alongside the owner and manager of the family business spread across 3 properties in the Hawkesdale area of southwest Victoria, you will be supported and encouraged to grow your knowledge and skill set to build confidence to take on more responsibility as you progress.
We would also encourage the successful applicant to undertake (if they haven't already done so) a Best Wool/Best Lamb course which we would fund in order to help broaden your understanding of driving a performance based grazing business
The position requires a highly motivated individual who ideally has 2 - 3 years experience in the prime lamb production space, who can work autonomously and is familiar ag software such as Agriwebb, and is prepared to adhere to and promote a safe and harmonious workplace and is able to use their time effectively
PLEASE NOTE: Commencement will be October 2026.
The properties are located east of the township Hawkesdale in SW Vic in 650 - 700mm rainfall zones
2 of the 3 properties have sheep handling facilities, and one property requires the design and construction of some facilities, all are well fenced and watered, with on going pasture improvement a major part of driving productivity within the business
Hawkesdale has a P-12 school and is located approx 40kms N of Warrnambool and approx 60kms S of Hamilton, both of which are major regional centres
Understanding key dates in the management calendar and being able to work with management in order to implement production targets at these key dates
Implementation of animal health and welfare objectives
Maintenance of stock handling infrastructure, water systems and fencing
Through further education such as Best Wool/Best Lamb network we aim to have the successful candidate being able to identify and assess levels of pasture quantity in paddocks throughout the year.
Staff safety is a high priority for us so we expect everyone to adhere to and promote safe workplace practices.
The position requires the successful candidate to be a clear and strong communicator and to be able to understand and follow instructions
We are looking for honesty, enthusiasm, reliability and a good work ethic. Work hours are generally 7:30 am to 5:30 pm with an hour for lunch, and during busy times of the year some weekend work will be required, we are however flexible in terms of family commitments and encourage involvement in local sporting clubs or other community activities and are happy to manage around these times
Good working dogs would be highly regarded
A four bedroom house will be available on one of the properties which is approx 10kms from the furthest property, a work ute will also be provided with a small allowance for personal use.
A phone allowance will also be negotiated within the salary package which will be determined upon the experience and suitability of the successful candidate
