We're on the lookout for a Livestock Hand to join our Goonoo crew.
Goonoo is a feedlot, backgrounding and farming property straddling the Comet River in Central Queensland. It is located 65km from Emerald, 20km south of Comet and 250km west of Rockhampton.
The main purpose of the role is to perform day to day livestock related operation, from livestock receival and induction, pen riding, hospital treatment, post-mortems, through to preparation of cattle for dispatch to a processing facility.
General Cattle handling
Ensure all animal handling and treatment is conducted within the guidelines of the AACo Policy on Animal Welfare
Ride a horse through all pens daily to ensure all animals stand and are in good health
Draft out any sick animals or those not eating and move to the hospital for treatment
On dispatch count cattle from feed pens and to dispatch pen
Induction
Ensure livestock are Inducted into the feedlot as outlined in the induction management procedures and relevant livestock work instructions
Move cattle through yards to crush for individual processing
Operate hydraulic crush and gates
Install ear tags, administer injections in neck of animal, band tails, check number of teeth and back line
Use a computer operating information collection system to record all identification, weight and treatment for all cattle inducted
Count and move cattle to feed pens using horses
General Feedlot Duties
Carry out all general cleaning and maintenance duties at feedlot induction shed and hospital facilities
Maintaining accurate records of animal treatments and stock movements
Inventory control and stocktaking of all livestock products
Keep areas clean and tidy, removing rubbish and disposing of all waste
Grease/maintain crush and gates, clean troughs
Maintain compliance with WHS, HR, QA and Environmental standards
Maintain saddles and other tac by regular application of leather conditioner
Previous experience in a similar role preferred
Skills in general cattle handling, ideal but not essential
Knowledge of cattle husbandry
Basic level horsemanship required.
