The Mechanic role will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant and machinery on station.

You will be based at Gregory Downs Station in the Gulf of Carpentaria near Gregory.

Spanning more than 266,000 hectares, Gregory runs a large Brahman based breeding herd across open downs and river country. With reliable water and strong infrastructure, it offers the experience of working cattle in the unique Gulf environment. The Gregory homestead includes comfortable living quarters, a staff kitchen, recreation club and horse-riding facilities. The station is located on the beautiful Gregory River, with staff spending their days off swimming, fishing and attending local social events.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

  • The set up of a maintenance program including vehicles, trucks, earthmoving equipment, generators and small motors

  • Coordination of station work schedules and communicating clearly to ensure operator awareness.

  • Carry our repairs, services and overhauls as required

  • Organising of materials and equipment

  • Maintaining spare parts and inventory

  • Maintaining an efficient and safe workshop in accordance with WHS legislation and policies. 

  • Travel to some other stations as and when required

Job Requirements

  • A genuine interest in working and living on a remote cattle station

  • Hold a mechanical trade qualification with 2 years + post trade experience

  • Excellent diagnostic, fault finding, trouble shooting and preventative maintenance skills

  • Ability to work under limited supervision

  • Organisational skills to organise a daily/weekly work schedule

  • An unrestricted current driver’s licence (manual)

  • MC licence preferrable but not essential

  • Strong verbal & written communication skills  

  • Ability to travel long distances, working autonomously and remotely 

  • Ability to work within a team environment 

  • A good understanding of WHS procedures
