Job Description

  • Murray Downs are seeking a Governess to join the team in 2026 and beyond.

  • You will provide educational support, tutoring and supervision of 3 school aged children (Year 1, Year 3 & Year 5) through Alice Springs School of the Air.

Murray Downs is a family owned and operated beef breeding property located in the Southern Barkly region of the NT, 200 km south of Tennant Creek. Spanning 1.3 million acres and running 15,000 breeders, we are currently in a development phase that includes water and fencing infrastructure to increase carrying capacity and herd productivity.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons according to curriculum and catering for a variety of learning styles.

  • Teach a full range of learning areas, including but not limited to English (reading & writing, speaking and listening), mathematics, science, technology, society and the environment, creative arts, personal development and health and physical education.

  • Organise and provide materials and equipment needed before commencing lessons.

  • Ensure all loaned school equipment and resources are properly maintained, accurately accounted for, and that the schoolroom is kept clean and organised.

  • Maintain regular contact with teachers, and actively engage with and provide feedback with parents.

Job Requirements

  • Sound literacy, numeracy and writing skills.

  • Basic working knowledge of computers with Microsoft Office applications and Zoom.

  • Ability to lead, guide and tutor school-aged children to optimise their academic outcomes.

  • Ability to motivate young children to participate in unfamiliar activities.

  • Sound planning and organisation skills.

  • An interest in education and a love of learning.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate of education or equivalent

  • First Aid certificate (can be acquired through our training week)

  • Working with children's check or relevant state equivalent.
