Job Description

  • This opportunity is a permanent role however we would consider a 6 or 12 month contract for the right person.

  • We are only 15 mins from Batchelor which has a school to Year 10 and all other small town facilities.

  • Salary will be according to experience in line with the meat industry award wage.

 
Eva Valley Meats is the pioneer boutique paddock-to-plate beef cattle processing facility in the Northern Territory. We are a progressive company with a focus on delivering a superior product every week to quality restaurants in Darwin and direct to private customers. We are currently seeking a part-time slaughterman/butcher to join our on-farm abattoir & butcher shop situated approximately 1.5 hours from Darwin. You will be required to work approx. 25hrs/wk with a team of 2-4 employees to ensure orders are delivered on time every week.
 
Our Company has a very high standard for the ethical production of beef and buffalo right through to the end product. This role is for a person who shares our belief in product provenance and is passionate about their trade. You will need to have experience in the entire process from slaughter through break-down and making small goods, and be willing to share knowledge with the team. High levels of hygiene are essential, as are strong communication skills and a desire to be an integral part of our team.

Property Description

Old Cameron Downs is a 600ha property located near Litchfield National Park, NT. We run a herd of Senebrah Cows and Senepol Bulls, growing out steers to 500kg for processing through our on-farm abattoir. We have a mixture of cleared land and native timber, and work in partnership with The Mulloon Institute to rehydrate and regenerate our land.

We are not organic however we do not broadacre spray weeds or vaccinate our herd. We have built our branded beef over the last 10 years and have a strong customer base throughout the NT, and we are looking to expand into southern Australia with our branded buffalo.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with slaughter of beef and buffalo

  • Whole carcase breakdown of beef and buffalo

  • Producing high-quality retail and wholesale cuts

  • Value-adding (sausages, smallgoods, portion control)

  • Willingness to teach and share knowledge with staff and apprentices

  • Maintaining strict hygiene and food safety standards

  • Managing workflow to reduce waste and improve yield

  • Assisting with orders, packaging, and presentation

Job Requirements

  • Qualified butcher or proven industry experience

  • Strong whole-carcase skills

  • High standards of cleanliness and food safety

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of your work

  • Ethical mindset toward livestock and meat production

  • Respect for the animal and low-waste processing
