Job Description

The Overseer (open to couples and single candidates) is to provide support and assistance to the Station Manager in the operations of Melaleuca Station. Reporting directly to the Station Manager and in his absence report to the General Manager, Rural Properties.

The successful couple need experience working with cattle and other station duties.

Paspaley Pastoral's Melaleuca Station is located 200 km east of Darwin on the western border of the world heritage listed Kakadu National Park. Comprising some 45,000 hectares, Melaleuca Station is used for finishing cattle bred from Dry River Station south of Katherine, and also some buffalo.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

  • To take control of property operations in the managers absence

  • Supervision of contractors when required

  • Cattle mustering, drafting, cattle processing

  • Buffalo mustering and processing

  • Mustering is done by Quad bikes and helicopters 

Carry out Animal Husbandry practices which includes but is not limited to:

  • Low stress cattle/ buffalo handling

  • De-horning

  • Vaccinating cattle

  • Pregnancy Testing

Maintenance and general duties which includes but is not limited to:

  • Checking water, water infrastructure set up

  • Flood plain fencing

  • Livestock supplements

  • General Maintenance

  • Maintenance and repair of plant and equipment, infrastructure and grounds of the station complex

  • Weed Control

  • Assist with property developments and projects

Job Requirements

  • Experience in a similar role, minimum 2 years (Mandatory) - skills: Mustering, yard work, animal Husbandry practices, fencing etc - see duties above.

  • Be capable in first aid and emergency medical evacuation of required

  • To undergo training as required by management.

  • Follow company OH&S procedures.
