Southern Downs Feedlot, located 30km from Warwick, is looking for a General Feedlot Operator to join the team within a busy livestock operation.
The role will initially be a broad, hands-on opportunity to learn both feedmill and feedlot operations.
Family owned and operated; Elbow Valley Beef sells exclusively from the Canning Downs South operation. Canning Downs South is a property and business in the picturesque Elbow Valley on the Southern Downs of Queensland. Over time other properties in Queensland and New South Wales have been added to support the business through backgrounding, breeding, and cropping operations.
Operations – operating machines incl. moxi, loaders, tractors, manure spreaders, skid steers to upkeep & maintain the feedlot infrastructure. Tasks will include cleaning out pens, spreading manure, spreading sawdust, cleaning bunks, and basic property maintenance incl. fencing & welding jobs.
Feedmill – learning how to mix feed, allocate, feed-out as required, plus upkeep and maintenance of the mill area.
The successful applicant ideally has the following skills and experience:
Min. 2 years’ experience operating various machines
Efficient operation in tasks and clear thinking under high pressure/time sensitive activities
Safety orientated operation
Solution focused on any issues/problems that arise
Can-do attitude and energy in completing tasks
Being clean, tidy, punctual and reliable is essential
HR Licence beneficial, Gun Licence beneficial
Once these general skills are acquired, there may be an opportunity to move into a specific area of the feedlot if there is a full-time position available including; operations, livestock, feedmill. However, as we are a small team, all members are expected to be able to work in each area as required regardless of their central area of operation.

No long-term accommodation just at the moment. All houses are currently full. There is a possibility of short-term accommodation to assist with relocation however. Please enquire on application.
