We're looking for an experienced and driven Farm Manager to lead the day-to-day and strategic management of Margan Pastoral Company's operations across our three properties near Boorowa, NSW.
We've recently restructured the leadership team.
The Farm Manager will take full operational and commercial responsibility for the business, allowing the CEO to focus on strategy, growth and the property's long-term vision. This is a senior leadership role for someone ready to take ownership of a diverse, regenerative pastoral enterprise and help build something meaningful for the future.
Margan Pastoral Company runs three properties and 5,000 acres in the Boorowa region of NSW. Our enterprises span cattle breeding and trading, Merino and terminal sheep - all farmed under regenerative and biodynamic principles. We're a family-owned business with a clear direction: farm better, build a great team, and leave the land in better shape than we found it.
This is a whole-of-business general management position. You'll carry full responsibility for farm operations, financial performance, team leadership, infrastructure, and compliance across all three properties. You report directly to the CEO, and you manage the Farm Operations Manager and station hands. The CEO's expectation is simple: the business should operate at full capability without needing to be pulled into day-to-day operational or financial decisions. You are the decision-maker on the ground. You'll also be the link between the vision and the reality.
You'll be responsible for:
Own the full farm and business budget - prepare, manage, and report monthly to the CEO
Provide strategic oversight of all livestock enterprises - cattle, Merino, and terminal sheep
Lead the graze plan - work with the Operations Manager on grass budgeting, seasonal priorities, and regenerative pasture outcomes
Lead, develop, and performance-manage all direct reports
Oversee all farm infrastructure, maintenance schedules, and capital planning
Maintain complete WHS, biosecurity, and compliance standards across the business
Manage key external relationships - agronomists, contractors, suppliers, and advisors
Deliver a clear monthly Business Performance Report to the CEO
We're looking for someone who owns their work completely - when things go well and when they don't.
You'll need to be as comfortable reading a P&L as you are reading a paddock.
This role suits someone who is:
Accountable - the CEO should never be surprised
Commercially sharp - you see the numbers behind the decisions
A developer of people - your team improves because of how you lead them
Steady under pressure - you don't pass the problem up or down
Deeply aligned with regenerative values - not just as a practice, but as a personal conviction
Honest about what you don't know - and active about closing the gap
Senior leadership package - salary negotiated based on experience and qualifications
On-site accommodation and vehicle use available
A property that practises what it preaches on regenerative and biodynamic agriculture
Real authority and a genuine seat at the table
Support from a hands-on CEO who is invested in the business succeeding
APPLY NOW with a short note - not a formal cover letter - answering two questions:
Tell us about a time at work when something went significantly wrong under your watch. What happened, what was your role in it, and what did you do?
Walk us through how you'd approach your first 90 days in a business you'd just taken operational leadership of - what would you do first, and why?
Attach your resume. Applications that don't answer both questions won't be reviewed.
