Solar Water Infrastructure Technician / Station Hand | Kimberley | WA

Job Description

This is much more than a traditional bore runner role.

You'll play a key role in maintaining and expanding the station's water infrastructure as we continue to deliver an ambitious extension program. Working closely with the Station Manager, you'll help build the infrastructure that will underpin the future growth of our cattle enterprise.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in quality workmanship and genuinely likes getting things working, and keeping them working.

As our Solar Water Infrastructure Technician / Station Hand, you will be responsible for:

  • maintaining solar-powered bore systems

  • servicing generator-powered bore sites

  • fault finding and troubleshooting pumps, motors and water systems

  • installing new solar pumping systems and solar panels

  • constructing new watering points including tanks, troughs and pipelines

  • preventative maintenance across the station's water infrastructure

  • welding, fabrication and mechanical repairs

  • fencing, mustering, cattle handling and general station duties.

About Christmas Creek Station

In the Kimberley region, 110 kilometres east of Fitzroy Crossing and at the foot of the Poole Range, Christmas Creek spans 165,000 hectares. Currently the herd comprises approximately 7,500 head of Brahman cattle and around 40% of the property is watered. We have commenced the first stage of a significant water point expansion program, with approximately 30 additional watering points planned over the next five years.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

Water Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Inspect, service and maintain station bores and watering systems.

  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs to pumps, pipelines, tanks and troughs.

  • Perform preventative maintenance to maximise reliability and minimise downtime.

  • Monitor water quality and water supply across all grazing areas.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and report emerging issues.

  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency repairs.

Solar & Power Systems

  • Install, commission and maintain solar-powered pumping systems.

  • Install and replace solar panels, controllers, inverters and associated equipment.

  • Maintain generator-powered bore sites.

  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults within solar pumping systems.

  • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reliability.

  • Assist with future renewable energy projects across the station.

Water Point Development

  • Assist with the construction and installation of new watering points.

  • Install pipelines, troughs, tanks and associated infrastructure.

  • Assist contractors during major infrastructure projects.

  • Operate machinery associated with trenching, lifting and installation works.

  • Support the station's long-term water expansion strategy.

General Station Operations

  • Participate in mustering, branding, drafting and processing cattle.

  • Construct and maintain fencing.

  • Maintain roads, yards and station infrastructure.

  • Operate station vehicles, plant and machinery safely.

  • Assist with seasonal station operations as required.

  • Maintain workshops, tools and equipment.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all station WHS procedures.

  • Ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.

  • Maintain plant and equipment in safe operating condition.

  • Participate in safety meetings and reporting.

  • Support animal welfare and biosecurity requirements.

Job Requirements

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience with solar bore and pump systems.

  • Experience maintaining solar-powered pumping systems.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and fault-finding ability.

  • Experience with generators, pumps and small engines.

  • Welding and fabrication skills highly regarded.

  • Ability to work independently across a large remote station.

  • Current manual driver's licence (essential).

  • HR licence, machinery tickets or trade qualifications advantageous.

  • Experience working on northern cattle stations highly regarded.
