Geddes Pastoral is seeking an experienced Livestock Hand to join our established team near Holbrook in southern NSW.

This is a hands-on livestock position focused primarily on sheep work. You could be working in the drenching race one day, mustering sheep on a motorbike the next, or repairing and building fences across the property.

We are looking for someone with genuine livestock experience who understands sheep handling, animal welfare and the day-to-day requirements of a large mixed farming operation.

Property Description

We are a respected, family run, mixed farming business located near Holbrook in southern NSW. We specialise in high rainfall sheep and cropping systems with cattle trading as a seasonal opportunity. We run 14000 plus merino and composite ewes, crop 800ha and can trade large numbers of cattle annually depending on the season. Our aim is to run a profitable progressive business that balances production, animal welfare, sustainable land management, innovation and the happiness and career development of our staff.

Holbrook is a vibrant rural town in Southern NSW. It has a strong sporting community including football, netball, tennis, cricket and polocrosse/campdrafting clubs and a large gym facility. There are many active community groups. It is well serviced with a local supermarket, doctors, hospital, great cafes and an award winning Pub. Schooling includes 2 primary schools and access to multiple senior school options. Holbrook is within 50 min of Albury and Wagga.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

The position includes, but is not limited to:

  • Mustering and moving sheep using motorbikes and four-wheelers

  • Working in sheep yards and handling facilities

  • Drenching, drafting, marking and general animal husbandry

  • Monitoring livestock health and welfare

  • Assisting with lambing and other seasonal livestock activities

  • Loading and unloading livestock

  • Building, repairing and maintaining fences

  • Checking and maintaining stock water infrastructure

  • General property maintenance and repairs

  • Assisting with cattle work when required

  • Supporting other areas of the mixed farming operation as needed

No horse work is involved in this position.

Job Requirements

The successful applicant will have:

  • Previous practical experience working with sheep and livestock

  • Confidence handling livestock safely and calmly

  • Experience mustering with motorbikes or four-wheelers

  • Sound knowledge of livestock husbandry and animal welfare

  • Fencing and general property maintenance skills

  • A current driver’s licence

  • A reliable, safety-conscious and practical attitude

  • The ability to work independently and as part of an established team

  • Good communication skills and a willingness to contribute across the operation

This is an experienced position. Applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant livestock handling and property experience.
