Goodwood Pastoral Company is seeking a practical and dependable Station Hand or couple to join our small team on our family-run cattle property near Boulia, Queensland.
This is a hands-on position offering plenty of variety, from cattle work, mustering and property maintenance to helping care for the garden, lawns and pool around the homestead.
A comfortable house suitable for a small family is provided, complete with Wi-Fi. Horses and up to two well-behaved dogs are also welcome.
Goodwood Pastoral Company Pty Ltd is a family-owned cattle operation in Outback Queensland.
Our main homestead is approximately 10 kilometres from Boulia and 300 kilometres south of Mount Isa. Boulia has essential services, including a state school, although applicants should be comfortable living somewhere where the nearest town does not have a Maccas!
You will work alongside our small team and lend a hand wherever required across the property.
The position may suit an individual, couple or small family looking to experience station life while contributing to the day-to-day running of a family cattle operation.
The role is available for an immediate start through to the end of 2026. There may be an opportunity to continue into 2027 if the arrangement suits everyone.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities
Assisting with cattle mustering on two-wheeled motorbikes
General cattle and yard work
Fencing repairs and maintenance
Completing water runs
Monitoring and maintaining solar bores
General property and station maintenance
Caring for lawns, gardens and the swimming pool
Assisting the team with other day-to-day jobs as required
Following safe work practices and property biosecurity procedures
Previous station experience would be highly regarded, particularly experience with mustering, fencing, water runs and property maintenance.
However, applicants who are practical, hardworking and genuinely keen to learn are also encouraged to apply.
Applicants will need:
A strong work ethic and reliable approach
A positive and practical attitude
The ability to work independently and within a small team
Good communication skills
The ability to live and work in a rural and relatively isolated environment
A current manual driver’s licence
The ability to confidently ride a two-wheeled motorbike for mustering
The following would be beneficial but are not essential:
Truck licence
First Aid certificate
ChemCert accreditation
Quad bike training or competency
Previous cattle station experience
Full-time work through to the end of 2026
Potential to continue into 2027
