Job Description

We are seeking an Assistant Manager to oversee the daily operations of the station livestock team providing support to our Station Manager. 

This is a hands on role that requires strong leadership, advanced communication skills, and ambition to grow as a leader within the beef production sector. 

The Assistant Manager will be required to liaise daily with the Station Manager and assist with coordination of mustering operations, training of employees, livestock movements, and livestock infrastructure maintenance.

Tanumbirini Station - located on the Carpentaria Hwy, 140km from Daly Waters is a large-scale breeding operation, running 34,000 head of brahman cattle expanding over 500,000 hectares.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and train Livestock team members to safely deliver large scale breeding property operations

  • Support the Station Manager in planning, coordinating, and prioritising operational activities.

  • Act as a key link between Station Manager and Livestock Teams, fostering effective communication and team performance.

  • Assist coordination of external contract mustering team.

  • Ensure all cattle handling, treatment, protocol and welfare activities are conducted in accordance with Rallen Australia Pty Ltd policies and procedures.

  • Oversee livestock processing, data capture, treatments and movements.

  • Monitor animal health and communicate strategies with Station Manager.

  • Oversee recording of accurate livestock records (yellow box & black box).

  • Coordinate maintenance of livestock yards, equipment and infrastructure.

  • Ability to safely operate machinery and train livestock staff in safe work procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with WHS and company standards.

  • Apply sound problem solving skills and decision making skills to support productivity, efficiency and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum two years in a leadership role.

  • Strong interest in leadership/team building/training.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organisational skills to enable prioritisation of tasks and perform under pressure.

  • Strong initiative and adaptability in a complex changing environment.

  • Basic computer skills to manage livestock records.

  • Sound cattle handling and horse riding skills.

  • Ability to operate various machinery.

  • Knowledge of market specifications and the ability to draft cattle to required standards.

  • Current Drivers Licence and preferably Truck Licenced.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain any Certification and Licencing required.
