Corfield Downs Pastoral is seeking an experienced Leading Stockman to work directly alongside the Manager across livestock operations and property maintenance.

This hands-on role suits someone ready to take responsibility, lead by example and mentor a team of two to four young ringers.

Property Description

Corfield Downs is a progressive 60,000-hectare pastoral and broadacre farming enterprise, located approximately 100km north of Winton.

The property operates a large-scale cattle backgrounding and trading business on native Mitchell and Flinders grass country, integrated with approximately 4,000 hectares of forage sorghum cropping, silage production and grain development.

The team values modern agricultural technology, low-stress cattle handling, sound land stewardship and a safe, positive station culture.

Start Date

TBC - Flexible start this year or Feb/March 2027

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Guide and mentor the station team in safe, efficient work practices.

  • Muster cattle on two-wheel motorbikes, working alongside aerial support.

  • Undertake yard drafting, branding and cattle processing using low-stress handling techniques.

  • Manage water runs, infrastructure checks, trough maintenance and fencing.

  • Assist with broadacre cropping, forage production and supplementary feeding.

  • Operate machinery and undertake basic repairs and general station maintenance.

  • Maintain strong workplace health and safety standards.

Job Requirements

  • At least three years of cattle station or agricultural experience, with proven practical skills.

  • Confidence riding two-wheel motorbikes.

  • Current manual driver’s licence.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to coach younger team members.

  • A positive team attitude and willingness to take responsibility.

  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in Central Western Queensland.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and National Police Check.

  • Unrestricted Australian working rights:
