The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead applied conservation programs & land management, but also have experience on working cattle stations (leading hand level or above). We are particularly open to applications from couples, as there is a position as a station hand / machine operator and the jobs can be structured around the strengths and experience of both partners.

The job is based at Narndee Station, only 6 hours from Perth. Narndee is a beautiful 225,000ha property that produces high-quality beef cattle under a conservation management plan, and actively protects species and habitats.
The role works with the Science, and Livestock & Operations team to help oversee NRM & herd management across the entire 600,000ha landscape.
Implement the applied conservation programs for species and habitat condition, with a particular focus on Mallee Fowl
Support grant applications, partner relationships and conference engagement for NRM and species conservation funding
Work with the Challa Overseer and Livestock & Operations team, coordinate the cattle management activities on Narndee, including
Accurate record keeping
Maintain Stock Waters
Monitor Stock Health
Muster and Process stock
Maintain Vehicles and Equipment
Build and Maintain Stock Fences
Maintain structures and dwellings
Demonstrate basic welding and mechanical ability
Liaise with any 3rd party users of the landscape
Apply sound problem solving skills and decision making to support productivity, efficient and continuous improvement
Lead with a focus on safety, performance, and integrity.
Maintain a positive and professional image for the Forever Wild Initiative
Essential
Minimum 2 years’ experience in rural industries (preferably beef cattle) & NRM
Diploma or degree in ecology, agriculture or other NRM-related fields, OR equivalent experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Competent using laptops and other technology
Working knowledge of QGIS or willingness & ability to learn
Able to work confidently under remote guidance, with integrity and timeliness
Experience staying safe in remote locations
Excellent organisational skills across a busy, logistically complex environment
Competent on motorbikes
Physically fit and capable to undertake NRM & livestock work
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Current manual driver’s licence
Desirable
Heavy machinery experience, including maintenance and relevant tickets / ability to obtain tickets and learn.
HC /MC Licence or ability to obtain
Welding and fencing skills
