Each candidate will complete a verification of competency on all equipment as part of their induction process.

Property Description

Willinga Pastoral Co-operates nine pastoral properties centralised in Queensland’s Western Downs region. The Willinga Pastoral Co aggregation traverses the rich brigalow belt that includes 147,000 acres and the capacity to carry over 15000 cattle. Fusing the fundamentals of regenerative agricultural, prime cattle country and quality breed genetics, Willinga Pastoral Co brings together a dynamic accumulation of land holdings with strategic infrastructure development.

Juandah Plains:

Juandah Aggregation is situated 25 km from Wandoan, a small Western Downs township, 405km from Brisbane Queensland. The aggregation is made up of two properties Juandah Plains and Glendoan with 42000 acres and homing 2500 breeders. Juandah Aggregation underpins the Willinga Pastoral Co breeding program using Hereford and Santa Gertrudis genetics as a foundation to produce quality progeny and commercial herds. The Glendoan livestock facilities is an industry leading compound with complete shelter structure and low stress, low risk remote controlled air gates for cattle drafting. Water conservation is a priority to Willinga Pastoral, with the Juandah Aggregation housing a large Solar Water Pump operation that provides reliable water supply.

Karalee Plains:

Karalee Plains is situated 60 km East of Taroom and 470km West of Brisbane. Comprising of two properties, Karalee Plains and Marama with a total aggregation of 27,000 acres and holding 6000 backgrounding progeny. It has been strategically developed to maximise its potential through pasture enhancement; which delivers a higher carrying capacity. 

Greenacres:

Placed 40kms South-West of Wandoan and 450kms North-West of Brisbane, the Greenacres Aggregation is a new addition to the Willinga Pastoral portfolio purchased January 2023. Totalling 38,000 acres and comprising of three properties Greenacres, Lucky Downs and Ewingsdale the grazing parcel of land will be used as a breeding background for the Karalee Aggregation.

Naturi:

Located 90km from Condamine and 100km from Roma Saleyards, Naturi lies between the intersection of arable farming land and cattle grazing country. Naturi, Pialaway & Murilla South properties boast 42,000 acres including 20kms Condamine River frontage. The aggregation operates as a self-sufficient business model breeding and backgrounding an Angus based herd.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in the duties required to manage and develop the livestock herd:

    • Mustering - on horseback and side-by-side vehicles (Buggy’s) across all properties/aggregations. No quad or two-wheeler bikes are used. Horse riding skills are not necessary for the positions.

    • processing and trucking cattle.

    • Fencing, checking waters, lick runs, and other general property duties as required.

    • Work both independently and in a small team, with strong communication skills.

    • Complying with Health and Safety policies and procedures.

  • Maintain, develop and improve facilities, equipment, machinery and infrastructure on the property.

  • General livestock husbandry and herd management.

  • Ensure all livestock are handled in a quiet and sensible manner and ensure the welfare of livestock at all times using low stress management tools.

  • Strictly adhere to all policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety legislation.

  • Operation, service and general repairs and maintenance of associated vehicles, plant machinery, equipment and infrastructure.

  • General property and garden maintenance, including but not limited to fencing, water systems, yard maintenance and weed control.

  • Feral pest control.

  • Follow and adhere to any documentation and reporting requirements as required by the business.

  • Support the continued development of resource mapping for management purposes eg: woody weeds and fencing along waterways.

  • Provide general support to the Station manager to achieve the smooth running of the station.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in similar role, favourable but not essential.

  • Highest standards in animal welfare.

  • Have experience working with cattle (low stress stock handling experience is highly desirable).

  • Be a confident horse rider, with experience mustering cattle.

  • Have experience operating machinery, basic maintenance; highly regarded but not essential.

  • A current manual drivers license, truck license highly regarded.

  • Have experience complying with Health and Safety policies and procedures.

  • Be self-motivated, tidy, enthusiastic and have a great attitude towards what you do.
