We are currently seeking a Livestock Manager to join the team at our Wallumba Feedlot near Condamine, QLD.
The Livestock manager plays a key role in coordinating the daily activities of the stock team, ensuring efficient livestock movements, staff organisation, and adherence to animal welfare and safety standards.
Working closely with the Feedlot Manager and Mill Manager, this role oversees the planning and implementation of inductions, dispatches, pen movements, health procedures, cattle transfers from paddocks.
This role is a permanent position so it is NOT open to Working Holiday Visa holders or overseas applicants.
With a license to feed 20,000 head, the Wallumba Feedlot grain-finish the majority of MDH's cattle. After being purchased in 2001, Wallumba transformed MDH Pty Ltd from a grass finishing operation to a backgrounding operation, with 90 per cent of MDH's cattle being grain-finished in the feedlot. Wallumba, in addition to Nangram, has provided significant 'drought proofing' capabilities to the MDH operation, ensuring cattle can be finished even when the northern properties experience a dry season.
Livestock Operations
Coordinate daily livestock handling, including mustering, drafting, trucking, and pen movements.
Oversee cattle transfers from paddock to the feedlot, ensuring smooth logistics and high welfare standards.
Assist with inductions, truck outs, and health procedures in collaboration with management.
Assisting the feedlot manager in weekly planning for livestock movements
Team Leadership & Coordination
Plan, allocate, and supervise tasks for the stock team.
Support onboarding and training of new staff, ensuring consistency, compliance, and safety.
Promote a positive, safe, and respectful team culture.
Operational Management
Maintain accurate stocktakes of induction supplies and assist with inventory control.
Ensure all equipment, workspaces, and common areas remain clean, organised, and safe.
Contribute to maintenance planning and oversee equipment functionality.
Keep thorough records and communicate effectively across teams and departments.
Other Responsibilities
Feedlot mill operation, maintenance and flaked grain production
Ration mixing and delivery (including truck-loader operation)
Feed allocation, management of cattle feeding system
Pen cleaning, manure management and feedlot maintenance
Quality control and safety
Feedlot Quality Assurance programs

Skills & Experience Required
Extensive experience in feedlot or intensive livestock operations.
Strong livestock handling abilities and sound knowledge of feedlot processes and welfare standards.
Leadership experience with proven task delegation and team coordination skills.
Experience with livestock health systems, pen scheduling, and transport logistics.
Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and inventory management skills.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and efficiency.
Familiarity with feedlot machinery and basic mechanical understanding
