We’re looking for a capable and hands-on Assistant Manager to join our team in Cunnamulla, Outback Queensland.

This is a full-time, practical role ideally suited to a couple with experience livestock management, machinery operation, maintenance and broad acre farming. The role is suited to people who are proactive and enjoy the diverse challenges of overseeing livestock and cropping operations in a remote setting.

Reporting to the QLD Regional Manager, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the station, overseeing livestock activities and seasonal cropping, operating and maintaining a modern fleet of equipment, and contributing to a safe and productive team environment.

Rocky Station and Mirage Plains span more than 52,000 hectares and are located in a highly regarded part of Outback Queensland, approximately 60km south of Cunnamulla on the banks of the Warrego River. These family-run stations are well suited to sheep, goats, and cattle, offering a true outback lifestyle with access to diverse country and strong infrastructure that supports year-round livestock operations.

You will also work alongside farm managers who support our cotton production and farming operations in Rolleston, QLD and Young, NSW.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager will assist with daily station operations with a strong focus on:

  • Livestock management, including mustering, herd health, data recording, paddock rotations, and breeding programs supporting our high-quality Angus and Ultra Black cattle, certified organic lamb, Dorper sheep, and rangeland goats

  • Assisting the QLD and NSW teams with AI and breeding programs

  • Operating, maintaining, and undertaking basic mechanical work on a range of modern machinery and plant, including tractors, sprayers, headers, and other farm equipment

  • Utilising and maintaining livestock and cropping records using modern technology and systems

  • Being confident using motorbikes and travelling in helicopters, as these are used to muster livestock in hard-to-reach areas and during adverse weather conditions

  • Supporting seasonal cropping operations, including land preparation, sowing, spraying, and harvesting

  • Leading water runs, fencing, and machinery operations

  • Assist with pest management programs

  • Maintaining accurate records of livestock movements, chemical usage, paddock history, and equipment servicing

  • Monitoring and managing fuel, stock, and essential station supplies

  • Maintaining operations during unpredictable weather, seasonal and environmental changes

  • Assist and monitor water pumps and irrigation systems in line advice from management

  • Coordinating work across a small team, including trainees, casuals and contractors

  • Assisting with mentoring and training station hands

  • Follow and reinforce safe work practices and site procedures

  • Support implementation and ongoing use of the business’s WHS and HR systems

  • Participate in hazard reporting, inspections, and general compliance requirements

  • Work in line with property procedures and operational expectations

The Partner role will support across:

  • Stocktake and inventory

  • Administrative support

  • Onboarding support

  • Domestic duties and garden/staff quarters maintenance

  • Assisting with livestock and mustering where required

  • Other ad hoc tasks as required from time to time

Job Requirements

  • 3 - 6 years experience in a senior role – Head stockman/Assistant Manager role or similar (solid livestock management and practical stock handling of cattle and sheep is essential)

  • Strong understanding of farm safety, animal welfare, and record-keeping

  • All-round experience in pastoral / mixed farming / broadacre farm operations

  • Practical experience with machinery operation and farm maintenance with ability to carry out machinery repairs

  • Knowledge of centre pivot irrigation systems, water infrastructure, and pumps (desirable)

  • Experience with agricultural chemicals and safe handling procedures

  • GPS and precision agriculture experience is desirable

  • Confidence in leading and mentoring a team

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and practical problem-solving skills

  • Ability to complete report writing, basic admin, and invoicing tasks accurately

  • Confidence on two-wheel motorbikes

  • Comfort using digital farm tools, with training provided if needed

  • Current driver’s licence required

  • Tickets/licences such as chemical handling, first aid, machinery, truck or motorbike are advantageous

  • A proactive, practical, and team-oriented mindset

  • Comfort living remotely and working both independently and with others
