The Hughes family’s connections with the beef industry stretch back to 1872, spanning six generations from Peter & Jane Hughes’ great grandparents and extends to their sons Sam and Fred, who, with their respective families, are all involved in the Hughes business.

Peter & Jane Hughes’ home base is Tierawoomba, a 140,000 hectare aggregation running over 20,000 tropically adapted EU accredited purebred Wagyu cattle near Nebo in Central Queensland.

Hughes Pastoral and Georgina Pastoral are wholly owned by the Hughes family and run over 220,000 head of cattle—the majority being purebred Wagyus—on multiple properties covering over 4 million hectares in Queensland and the Northern Territory, making the Hughes family the largest Wagyu producer in the world.

The Hughes family ethos is based on care of all the people who assist them, their land, and their stock. They have a deep commitment to leaving their land in better condition for the benefit of future generations.

• Governess - Home Tutoring/ supervising children/ some cleaning/ cooking other duties as required

• Gardener - Mowing/ watering/ moving sprinklers/ pruning/ raking/ general garden/ station grounds upkeep

• Cook - cooking nutritious meals for up to 15 on a station/ grocery ordering/ keeping kitchen clean & tidy

• Grader Driver/Machinery Operator - fire breaks/ dam building/ maintenance of roads etc

• Mechanic - servicing/ repairs on trucks and other station vehicles

• Station Hand: Mustering on horseback/ bikes/ fencing/ yard work, other station duties

• Governess - experience essential/ police check

• Gardener - Experience preferred but not essential

• Cook - a passion for cooking is essential, being 'kitchen proud' and organised.

• Grader Driver/Machinery Operator - Experience operating Grader/ Dozer? Loader is essential

• Mechanic - Diesel Mechanic certification/ experience essential

• Station Hand - Experience mustering on horseback/ bikes preferred - prepared to work as a team!

• Drivers licence is essential for all positions

Depending on your role, on top of renumeration, most will include:

• Inclusive of accommodation and all meals

• Remuneration will depend on position and experience

• Access to 4G Telstra reception and Wi-Fi, depending on the station.

• Accommodation is available for families/ couples, with work also potentially available for partner dependent on skill set.

• Training and licencing opportunities available.
