We are seeking an experienced and motivated Farming Manager to lead operations across our backgrounding properties at New Norcia and Koojan Downs.

This is a key leadership role focused on driving productivity, improving pasture and forage crop development, and unlocking the full potential of these large-scale aggregations.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing operational farming plans, including production targets, budgets, and resource allocation. In addition, you will lead long-term programs to enhance soil health, irrigation systems, farming infrastructure, and technology adoption—ensuring best-practice agronomy is consistently applied.

The Backgrounding Properties:

New Norcia Farm is located next to the historic township of New Norcia.  It is a 7975ha property which has a frontage to the Moore River and is located 132km north of Perth in Western Australia.

Koojan Downs Farm is located 25kms from Moora, 160kms north of Perth in Western Australia and is a 10,000ha property.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership and guidance to farming staff, contractors, and seasonal employees.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance development activities.

  • Drive a positive workplace culture focused on safety, teamwork, accountability, and continual improvement.

  • Foster clear communication across teams and maintain professional relationships with external advisors and service providers.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all operations comply with workplace health and safety regulations and company policies.

  • Promote safe work practices and ensure appropriate use of PPE, equipment, and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate compliance records including chemical use, machinery maintenance, and environmental obligations.

  • Support biosecurity, environmental management, and sustainability initiatives.

Farm Planning & Production Management

  • Develop and deliver annual farm plans, operational schedules, and budgets.

  • Manage seasonal programs to achieve productivity targets, including planting, silage, harvesting, and pivot irrigation.

  • Work closely with agronomists to optimise crop and livestock performance.

  • Monitor production metrics, input usage, and costs to support decision‑making and continuous improvement.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee daily farm operations including infrastructure maintenance, water systems, machinery, and pasture management.

  • Operate and supervise the use of modern agricultural machinery and technology.

  • Manage weed control, chemical application, fertiliser programs, and soil health initiatives.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Contribute to budget development and manage operational costs within approved levels.

  • Maintain accurate records including production data, chemical registers, and machinery logs.

  • Support procurement of inputs, spare parts, feed, fuel, and services.

  • Provide regular reports to senior management on farm performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.

Job Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

  • Proven experience in farming operations management (cropping, livestock, or mixed farming).

  • Strong knowledge of agricultural production systems, farm machinery, and modern farming practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage staff performance.

  • Sound understanding of chemicals, weed control, and safe application procedures.

  • Competency in using farm technology, GPS systems, and digital record‑keeping tools.

  • Strong problem‑solving, planning, and organisational skills.

  • Commitment to safe work practices, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship.

  • Current driver’s licence.

  • Ability to pass a National Police Clearance and pre-employment medical assessment.
