Palgrove is a highly regarded Australian seedstock and commercial cattle business with a proud history spanning over 50 years. Known for our commitment to quality genetics and innovative practices, we are seeking a dedicated Livestock Assistant Manager to help lead the next chapter of our Ultrablack program.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled livestock professional with a strong background in stud operations and a passion for livestock best-practices, quality control and team leadership.
Located 35km north of Inverell, Macintyre Station spans 9,508 hectares and is a key hub of Palgrove’s Ultrablack breeding program.
The property supports a large stud and commercial breeding operation, including Angus, Ultrablack and Brangus herds, alongside extensive joining and AI programs.
With a carrying capacity of approximately 8,500 AE, a mix of fertile basalt and alluvial soils, and established irrigation and improved pastures, Macintyre is well equipped for breeding, backgrounding and finishing cattle.
The Livestock Assistant Manager plays a critical role in ensuring operational excellence, ensuring optimal livestock and breeding activities, high animal welfare standards while developing a skilled and engaged team.
Key responsibilities include:
Livestock Operations – Ensure all aspects of livestock handling and quality control, including drafting, culling, branding, weaning and animal health treatments, are undertaken safely and with a focus on animal welfare standards and the production of high-quality seedstock.
Breeding Programs - Work with the Property Manager and Ultrablack Seedstock Manager to implement natural, AI and ET breeding programs.
Livestock Data - Maintain accurate and timely livestock records to support informed decision-making.
Team Development – Develop and train Seedstock team members to build strong seedstock knowledge and technical capabilities, fostering a high-performing and knowledgeable workforce.
Proven experience in stud cattle operations
Strong understanding of livestock quality control measures, animal health and pasture management.
Confident and supportive leader with a passion for mentoring others
High level of initiative and an eye for continuous improvement
Excellent organisational and communication skills
