We’re looking for a Station Hand to join our small team and support the day‑to‑day running of the property.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who is reliable, practical, and enjoys varied work across cattle and general station operations.

About the Role

Working alongside the Station Manager, you’ll be involved in all aspects of cattle work, machinery operation, and property maintenance. With a small team on the property, you’ll need to be comfortable working independently and taking initiative when required.

A comfortable on‑property house is provided that is suitable for a small family.

Tropical Cattle is a grey Brahman stud and cattle trading operation based at The Orient, a 14,500‑acre property located just 20 km from Ingham, QLD.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cattle handling across stud and trading operations (mustering, drafting, NLIS, animal welfare)

  • Operating machinery and vehicles (buggies, tractors, loaders, and trucks)

  • Regular truck driving for feed runs, cattle movements, and general station operations

  • Mustering, fencing, water runs, and general station maintenance

  • Supporting record‑keeping and property upkeep

  • Maintaining safe work practices and biosecurity standards

Job Requirements

Who We’re Looking For

  • Practical, dependable worker with a positive attitude

  • Calm, capable cattle handler

  • Comfortable mustering on horseback and four wheelers (horse experience preferred but not essential)

  • Mechanically minded and willing to learn. Confident operating trucks in day‑to‑day station work

  • Good communicator who works respectfully within a small team

Skills & Experience

  • Cattle handling experience (stud or commercial)

  • Competent with station machinery and vehicles

  • Mustering experience (horseback preferred)

  • Strong work ethic and reliability

  • Truck licence (HR or above required)

  • First Aid, ChemCert, or quad competencies (advantage but not required)
