Rural Australia is full of good men. Men who work hard, raise families, mentor younger blokes, volunteer at the local footy club, fight fires, check on neighbours and quietly keep their communities moving.
Most of them would not ask for recognition. In fact, plenty would be uncomfortable with the idea of a day dedicated to them.
But perhaps that is exactly why we need one.
