LEADAg Pathways is seeking farmers and agricultural businesses across Central and Western Queensland to become Host Mentors for participants completing a Certificate II in Rural Operations through Martyr Training (RTO No. 31279).
 
The goal of LEADAg Pathways is to support participants towards meaningful employment, while giving hosts the opportunity to develop someone who may become a future employee.
 
Host Mentors provide participants with practical, real-world experience to build their skills, confidence and understanding of working in agriculture, generally through approximately one day per week of on-farm experience.

Property Description

LEADAg Pathways will be delivered across Central and Western Queensland from 23 November 2026 to 24 May 2027.

As a Host Property, you are not expected to be the trainer or assessor. Your role is to provide practical, real-world training and experience to help participants become assessment-ready, with support and guidance from the LEADAg team, while building the skills, confidence and workplace experience needed to become employment-ready.
 
The goal is for participants to finish the program ready to step into meaningful employment in agriculture.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

Formal theory, training and assessment are delivered by the Registered Training Organisation. Your role is to provide practical workplace experience, supervision, mentoring and opportunities for participants to practice and develop their skills.
 
Hosts are supported with a practical Host Guide that outlines the on-farm activities, equipment exposure, workplace hour logs and practical experience participants need to become assessment-ready for Training & Assessment Week.
 
This includes helping participants develop practical skills in:

  • Fencing (standard and electric)

  • Mustering

  • Livestock handling

  • Water supply management

  • Chemical safety

  • Cropping

  • Weed management

  • Machinery operation and maintenance

  • Workplace Health & Safety

The LEADAg Pathways team will work with you to identify a participant who is a suitable fit for your property, business and team, considering factors such as location, interests, attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.
 
All participants must meet program eligibility criteria, including having a genuine interest in pursuing a career in agriculture. Hosts will have the opportunity to discuss a potential participant before any placement is confirmed.

Job Requirements

  • No formal training experience is required — just a willingness to share your knowledge, provide guidance and give a participant the opportunity to learn in a real agricultural workplace.

  • Host Mentors will support participants to build practical skills, confidence and workplace readiness while working towards their Certificate II in Rural Operations.

  • The goal of LEADAg Pathways is to support participants into employment, giving you the opportunity to train and develop someone who may become a future employee.

  • Ideally, hosts will provide approximately 1 day per week of practical workplace experience over the 6-month program, from late November to May, to help participants meet the minimum practical experience requirements.

  • Participants are expected to follow all workplace health and safety requirements, and LEADAg Pathways will arrange appropriate insurance coverage for participants during their placement.

  • All participants must meet program eligibility requirements and complete a screening process before being considered for placement.

  • Host Mentors working with participants aged 15–18 must hold a current Blue Card, or be willing to obtain one.
